Objective: Bugesera District engaged UPCE Consult Ltd to conduct feasibility and technical studies for extending and rehabilitating the Bugesera Youth Friendly Center, a facility serving young people in the district. Scope & Methodology: The assignment began with a thorough assessment of the current facility to identify areas needing expansion and improvement, followed by an evaluation of the technical requirements for the proposed works. Our multidisciplinary team then developed detailed architectural plans, cost estimates in the form of Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and technical recommendations for the design and implementation of the extension and rehabilitation. Sustainability was built into every recommendation: we proposed solar panel installations for renewable energy generation, natural ventilation systems, and energy-efficient lighting solutions consistent with green building principles. Key Deliverables: Architectural design drawings, a detailed BOQ, technical specifications, and a sustainability and energy-efficiency plan, all developed within the district's budgetary constraints. Impact: The recommendations enabled the district to plan an expanded, more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible youth center that would positively affect the wellbeing of the local community while keeping construction costs under control.
