Objective: UPCE Consult Ltd conducted a feasibility study for upgrading the Rwezamenyo 2 informal settlement, located in Nyarugenge District's Rwezamenyo Sector and covering an area of about 70 hectares. Scope & Methodology: The five-month study proposed new infrastructure designed to minimize population displacement, integrated climate resilience strategies into the design approach, and aligned the plan with environmental and social safeguard standards required by international funding partners, including the French Development Agency (AFD) and the World Bank. Throughout the assignment, our team placed strong emphasis on an integrated, environmentally-oriented and participatory approach to project implementation. Key Deliverables: A feasibility study report incorporating climate-resilient infrastructure proposals, displacement-minimization strategies, and compliance documentation against AFD and World Bank environmental and social standards. Impact: The study set the foundation for a sustainable and resilient upgrading program in Rwezamenyo, meeting the rigorous standards of international development partners while safeguarding the community that already calls the neighborhood home.
